科普英语的专业化程度很高,如果不先准备,一些词汇我都没接触过。手边有一篇(今年高年级的)楼主自己看看吧。
The Solar System
The sun, the planets and their moons are all part of the Solar System. It is called the solar system because everything goes around the sun and solar means “of the sun”. There are 8 planets in our solar system. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, the four planets nearest the sun are solid. The planets furthest from the sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are gaseous made mostly of hydrogen and helium.
Earth is the only planet in the solar system where there is life. Water exists on Earth in liquid, solid and gas form.
The moon is the earth’s satellite—it turns around the earth. There may be ice at its poles. There is no atmosphere and no life on the moon.
The sun is the star in our solar system. Seen from Earth, the sun looks the same size as the moon. This is because it is very far away. It is actually so big that it could not pass between the earth and the moon.
Comets are balls of dirty ice, a few kilometers in diameter. When they get near the sun, the ice turns to steam and forms a tail several million kilometers long. Comets are left over from when the solar system was formed.
The asteroid belt is found between Mars and Jupiter and is made of billions of pieces of rock and metal called asteroids. These asteroids are much smaller than planets.
An orbit is the path that planets travel around the sun. Orbit paths are almost circular.
