谢家麟吴良镛获国家最高科技奖 各获500万奖金

China gave the country's top science award on Tuesday to physicist Xie Jialin, a pioneer in particle acceleration, and architect Wu Liangyong, whose research is guiding the nation's urbanization.
周二，中国国家最高科技奖揭晓，荣获这一殊荣的分别是在粒子加速领域具有开创贡献的物理学家谢家麟和提出了中国城市化理念的建筑家吴良镛。


The laureates, both members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Wu is also a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), were each awarded the State Top Scientific and Technological Award by President Hu Jintao at a ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In addition, they received a bonus of 5 million yuan ($793,870).

雅芳行贿丑闻：海外高管涉嫌行贿中国官员

Federal prosecutors have presented evidence to a grand jury against U.S. executives of cosmetics company Avon Products, in a case that probes whether those executives broke foreign bribery laws, the Wall Street Journal said.

In 2008, Avon said that it had started an internal investigation into whether it had violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which bars U.S.-linked companies from paying bribes to officials of foreign governments.

BEIJING - China's top court on Tuesday issued a rare but long-awaited statement regarding the final review of a highly controversial death sentence imposed on a former billionaire.
北京：中国最高人民法院在周二召开新闻发布会，表示已经受理了中国亿万富姐吴英的死刑复核案，发布会后，最高法还特意将回应整理成文字材料发给媒体，这在以往的例行发布会中极为少见。吴英案受到媒体和社会各界的广泛关注，此前的死刑判决也是争议不断。


Wu Ying, a 31-year-old businesswoman, was sentenced to death in 2009 by the Jinhua Municipal Court in Zhejiang province for a Ponzi scheme in which she illegally raised 770 million yuan ($122 million) from 11 lenders with the promise of high returns from 2005 to 2007. She lost her appeal to the Zhejiang High People’s Court last month. According to China's criminal code, Wu will face capital punishment if the top court approves the judicial decision.

Sun Jungong, spokesman of the Supreme People's Court, said that a judicial review of Wu Ying's death sentence will be conducted "based on facts" and "according to the law".

All death sentences in China are reviewed by the top court before being carried out.

1. Bustaurant：巴士餐厅。Bustaurant 由 Bus（巴士） 和 restaurant（餐厅）合成而来，是指由大巴改建的餐厅。这种巴士餐厅通常是由双层巴士改建而成，底层为厨房，上层供客人就餐。

2. Couch commerce：沙发经济，沙发电子商务。Couch commerce 指用户通过手机或者移动设备来进行电子购物等交易活动而产生的经济。用手机购物过的举下手~

3. Downager：装嫩的人。Downager这个词的英文解释为：A person who acts younger than his or her age. 小D把它翻译成“装嫩的人”，还恰当吧！话说以后装嫩的话得好好掩饰一下，要不被人发现，再叫一声 "downager" 那可就囧死了……

英国人眼中名气最大的英国大学!中西方标准完全不同!

去英国留学，关于学校的名气的问题，不仅我们中国人关心这个，英国人也很关心这个，而且是最关心这个。我来了以后发现国内掌握的信息和英国本地人的眼光大致相同，但还是有偏差的，这可能来自于中国的学生对英国学校的历史和文化底蕴不是很了解，可以参考的依据往往只有那些媒体的排名而已。其实在英国，包括全欧洲，对学校的名气的关注远远大于媒体的Rank。当然这两者是有一定关系的。

在英国人的心目中，名气最好的当然也是Oxbridge，接下来是帝国理工（Imperial College，简称IC），这个和中国学生的看法差不多，但是下来就不同，英国人认为LSE（伦敦政治经济学院），UCL（伦敦大学学院）和爱丁堡是余下的名声最好的学校，Britol和King's college和Manchester的名气也非常响。尤其是爱丁堡的名气，特别响。这一点有些像复旦在国内的情况。论水平，前十名的学校的实力其实都有资格与其比较一下，但是论名气就差远了。我在爱丁堡特别有这个感觉。说个最简单的例子，很多美国学生都来这里读书。应该说这里美国学生的数目是仅次于Oxbridge，当然LSE的比例也很高。我和他们交流过，他们觉得爱丁堡和美国的Columbia等学校是一个名气的。当然，我觉得他们来这里留学的另外一个很重要的原因是欧洲的文化比美国更加吸引人。这所学校在欧洲的名气也非常响，超过UCL，甚至在IC之上。我碰到很多欧盟国家的同学，从法国到瑞士到挪威的都有，他们都对我说在他们国家的学生心目中，爱丁堡几乎是和Oxbridge一个档次的。虽然在英国人心目中不是这样。

这样的原因可能是爱丁堡历史很悠久，出了很多牛人的原因。这个和Oxbridge在世界顶尖学校的中的情形差不多。论目前的科研实力和财力，Oxbridge和Harvard，Htanford，MIT等都有一定差距。如果把Oxbridge放到美国学校中去，估计也就十名的样子，但是论名气，绝对是和美国前三的学校一个档次的。这是因为他们出过的名人的数量和质量不在世界上任何一所顶尖学校之下。爱丁堡在欧洲也是类似的情况，从达尔文到休谟到图林等等。最吸引人的其实是学校的文化。这是其他新兴的学校所不能比的。

最有说服力的排名是RAE，不是TIMES

这里要说一下英国大学排名的问题，关于Times的排名，其实对于读研究生来说参考价值很有限，英国的学生和家长看这个排名的用处基本是作为读本科的参考。这里面比重很大的A-level其实就等于中国的高考成绩。到目前为止，英国还没有哪个媒体能像USNEWS那样排出研究生的排名。对于读研究生的学生来说，最权威的应该是RAE的分数，这是英国官方的统计数字，每五年统计一次，所以很有说服力。这也是几乎是研究生院的科研工作者评判学校好坏的唯一标准。

大家会注意到英国大学的排名最大的弱点就在于不稳定，有的学校会在一年之内突然升高10名或者降低十名。客观上来说，对于任何一所健全的学校都是不可能的事情。产生这样情况的原因仅仅是因为某个学校造了个图书馆，或者某些地方扩建了等等。比如爱大两三年前一些老房子着火损坏了，结果Times的排名就骤然下降，Nottingham多扩建了个图书馆，但是东西还没安置好，就因为人均图书量的问题突然降低了6，7名，这样的例子比比皆是。

关于综合研究实力的情况，还有一个很好的衡量标准，就是看ORS分发的数量。这意味着英国政府对不同英国大学的重视程度和实力衡量。每年分配到最多的是 Cam，然后是OX，都有100以上。IC80多，UCL70多份。接下来的学校基本没有超过50份的，爱丁堡和Bristol差不多是这个数量。其他的更加少。一般来说分到30以上的学校都是很名气比较好的学校。

中国的学生可能知道Birmingham，Nottingham，York，Bath等甚于爱丁堡，Bristol，Manchester。这基本是受Times的排名影响。但是就academic 名气来说，其实前和后不是一个档次的。现在的排名很商业化，国际学生广告做得越多，招得越多，声势就越大，赚的钱也越多，排名就越高(在媒体排名里财务是很重要的一个排名指标，而不是国际论文数量或者研究成果之类的)。

英国电子工程专业最牛的大学

Cam的电子工程显然是一流的，但是没有特别突出的地方。至少和他的物理系是不能比的。还有几所学校不在他之下，Southampton也许是最牛的。这所学校几乎等于北邮或者国防电子在中国的大学电信领域的地位，特别是微电子，在全世界都是顶尖的。IC也非常猛，很多方向不比美国一流的学校差到哪里去。爱丁堡也是传统的强校，苏格兰微电子中心就在这里，他还有一个SASG(signal& system)group很厉害，里面有一个信号处理界的牛人Peter Grant。这个group也很有钱。里面的学生基本是full-funding的。Edinburh的AI是世界闻名的，是欧洲人工智能中心。图林这样的牛人就是这里毕业的。另外Surruy的通信也是牛到极点，虽然学校名气不是很响。但是这个专业的人物都是国际着名的学者，特别是空间技术，在全世界都是最顶尖的。

At one point following the critical and commercial success of his 2007 post-apocalyptic blockbuster I Am Legend, director Francis Lawrence entertained the notion of coming back with star Will Smith for prequel, but eventually that possibility trailed off and Lawrence casted doubt onto his involvement with the potential project. But today Warner Bros. announced a deal with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment, who have tapped screenwriter Arash Amel to write a follow-up to the $584M hit. Whether or not it'll be a prequel or some sort of direct sequel is unknown, though it's reportedly being created for Smith. Let's speculate away: Just how WB can possibly pull off another installment?

What makes the project a curious -- and, frankly, conspicuous -- one is the way in which Lawrence wrapped up I Am Legend, based on Richard Matheson's 1954 sci-fi novel. [Spoiler alert] Following a global pandemic that wiped out 90% of the world's population, scientist Robert Neville (Smith) had only just discovered a cure when, at the film's conclusion, he faced an onslaught of mutated vampire-people solo and seemingly met his own demise.

Of course WB wants their star and his famously potent box office draw to headline another I Am Legend movie. A prequel would explain Smith's presence most easily, but Deadline suggests that won't be the case. So how might they bring Smith back otherwise? Retcon the last scene in the first film, using the alternate ending in which Neville makes grudging peace with the vampire thingies? Maybe the survivors colony has cloning capabilities? Hell, why not bring in a long-lost twin brother for Neville who became a brilliant virologist as well - I Am Also Legend?

Whatever it turns out to be, at least it has a shot at being "one of the greatest movies ever made," amirite?

我国超50城市地面沉降：长三角地区榜上有名

近日，上海网友微博发布的几张图片引起广泛关注：陆家嘴东泰路地面出现明显裂缝（crack）。陆家嘴环路，即环球金融中心（the World Financial Center）与在建的上海中心（the Shanghai Tower）发生地面裂痕，地形已经开始上下错开。长约七、八米，两侧地面有明显错位，一直延伸到北侧的人行道上和花坛周围。这条位于环球金融中心花侧车库出口附近的裂缝。




2月16日当晚，上海市政府新闻办公室官方微博，上海发布作出了回应，就网友关注的陆家嘴东泰路地面出现裂缝现象，上海中心大厦建设方表示，大厦则开工之日起即进行严密跟踪监测，均处于受控状态，地面裂缝是基坑施工过程中的正常沉降现象（land subsidence）。目前地下结构工程已完成，引起沉降因素基本消除，正待阴雨天结束都对裂缝进行修复。跟踪监测不会停止。

过度抽取地下水（excessive exploitation of underground water），是造成上海地面沉降的主要原因。所以从1966年开始，上海开始限制地下水开采，和人工回灌地下水，要求地下水用户在冬天将地下回灌与其夏季开采等量的自来水，从而恢复土层弹性，控制地面沉降。

Procter & Gamble Co. plans to cut about 5,700 non-manufacturing jobs as part of a new plan to reduce costs by $10 billion by the end of fiscal 2016, Chief Executive Officer Bob McDonald said on Thursday.

The world's largest household products company has about 57,000 non-manufacturing employees among its total workforce of about 129,000.

After years of expanding, bringing products such as Gillette Guard razors to India and Pantene shampoo to Brazil, P&G realized that it needs to be more nimble in order to ensure strong growth, especially in emerging markets, at a faster clip.

P&G also trimmed earnings forecasts for the current quarter and fiscal year because of the new plan to sell its Pringles snack business to Kellogg Co.

The two companies announced their deal last week after P&G walked away from a plan to sell Pringles to Diamond Foods Inc., whose accounting practices came under fire after that agreement had been signed.

The job cuts will largely be completed by the end of fiscal 2013, which ends in June of that year, McDonald said at the annual Consumer Analyst Group of New York, or CAGNY, conference in Boca Raton, Florida.

P&G outlined a variety of projects it is putting in place, including using less-expensive packaging, eliminating duplicate work where it can and working on innovations with outside companies and with virtual technology.

P&G lowered earnings per share expectations by 2 cents for the current third quarter and by 7 cents for the fiscal year due to the pending sale of Pringles. It now expects to earn 89 cents to 95 cents per share in the third quarter, which ends in March, and $3.93 to $4.03 per share in the fiscal year ending in June.

Shares of Cincinnati-based P&G were up 2.4 percent at $65.99 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

BURLINGTON, Wash. -- Lynn D. "Buck" Compton, a veteran whose World War II exploits were depicted in the HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers," has died, his family said.

Compton died Saturday in Burlington, Wash., after having a heart attack last month, the family told the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/AmfhYe ) in a story Tuesday.

In January, nearly 200 guests, including actors from the miniseries, attended his 90th birthday party, the Skagit Valley Herald (http://is.gd/XScV1b ) reported.

"To us he wasn't really a war hero, he was just a hero, period," Tracy Compton told the Herald.

Lynn Compton also is remembered for his legal career in California. He headed the team that prosecuted Sirhan B. Sirhan for the slaying of Robert F. Kennedy and was appointed to the 2nd District Court of Appeal in 1970 by Gov. Ronald Reagan. He retired from the bench in 1990.

He was awarded a Silver Star and a Purple Heart during World War II. But it wasn't until later in life that he became famous for his military service as a first lieutenant in Easy Company after the unit parachuted into France on D-Day in 1944. Historian Stephen E. Ambrose's 1992 best seller about the unit was made into the 2001 TV series.

"His career as a prosecutor and a judge overrode his military career until `Band of Brothers' came out, and then it just went crazy," daughter Syndee Compton said.

A passage in the book recalled the D-Day invasion of France: "Compton had been an All-American catcher on the UCLA baseball team. The distance to the fleeing enemy was about the same as from home plate to second base. Compton threw his grenade on a straight line -- no arch -- and it hit a German in the head as it exploded."

Compton was embarrassed by the attention at his birthday party at Skagit Regional Airport that was attended by children of other Band of Brothers veterans.

"All I can say is it's flattering -- and kind of embarrassing," Compton told the Herald. "We didn't expect anything more than those other guys (in the war). We're celebrating longevity more than anything."

The guests included "Band of Brothers" actors Michael Cudlitz, James Madio, Richard Speight Jr. and Neal McDonough, who portrayed Compton in the miniseries.

McDonough recalled meeting with Compton the day before he flew to London to begin filming "Band of Brothers," and later peppering him with questions about his time during the war.

"When you play a historical figure, you have to do it right and tell the truth," McDonough told the Times, recalling that Compton told him he was just doing his job.

"He'd say that's what soldiers do," said McDonough, who kept in touch with Compton and nicknamed his 6-year-old son Morgan "Little Buck" in his honor.

Tracy Compton said her father thought McDonough did a wonderful job portraying him and that "he laughed and said Neal was better-looking than he ever was."

Compton was born in Los Angeles on Dec. 31, 1921. He majored in physical education and minored in education at UCLA, where he lettered in football and baseball. He started at guard in the 1943 Rose Bowl game against Georgia and was selected all-conference catcher while captain of the baseball team in 1942.

He also participated in the ROTC program and entered active service in February 1943 at age 21.

After the war, he became a Los Angeles police officer and worked his way through Loyola Law School. He was a detective in the Central Burglary Division before joining the district attorney's office in 1951. He was assistant district attorney when District Attorney Evelle J. Younger chose him as his chief deputy in 1966.

Compton's memoir "Call of Duty: My Life Before, During and After the Band of Brothers," written with Marcus Brotherton, was published in 2008.

His wife, Donna, died in 1994. Along with his two daughters, he is survived by four grandchildren.

起因：

普通市民小秦的父亲日前被查出患有肺癌，送到肺科医院就诊，因病情严重，无法手术和放化疗，只能回家静养。2月4日，老人突发脑梗，送往长海医院急诊后，控制了病情进一步恶化。但由于病房紧张，三天后，医院要求患者转院。经过奔走，小秦联系到市东医院，可是父亲入院18天后，又被告知因为床位必须周转、让给急症病人等原因，必须出院。无奈，小秦又将父亲转到控江医院，暂时有了安顿之处。

但小秦心中仍然不安：是不是再过一两个星期，医院又会让我们转院，老父亲是不是又要被折腾一番？他将多日来的经历写成了一篇文章，以致信上海市委书记俞正声同志的形式，前天下午发在了自己的博客上。博客中，他回顾了一个月来陪老父辗转多家医院的艰难经过，并提出“为癌症晚期病人提供一个有尊严、稳定而安全的就医环境”“支持和鼓励社会力量为癌症晚期病人及家属提供心理辅导、陪护等慈善服务或志愿行动”等诉求和建议。这篇博客被多家网站转载。

市委书记俞正声看到这篇博客后，昨天通过“上海发布”微博平台给小秦回信——

“秦岭同志：看到你的公开信后，心情很沉重。谁都有父母、谁都有亲人，当眼见有养育之恩的亲人于病危之际而无力相助之时，又遭遇一些制度缺陷的伤害，心中之痛，不言自明。我们大家会尽力帮助你，更重要的是同志们都赞成你的四点诉求，特别要在癌症晚期病人的关怀上，争取在制度上有所前进。我不能保证问题都能很快解决好，但我相信，你的心痛也是大家的心痛，大家（包括医院同志们）的共识会推动我们前进。”

到底这段童话般的故事是否真实呢？经过两天的多方求证，终于确定了小夫妻双方确实都是东莞理工学院工商管理学院2010级的学生。一位男方的亲戚说，两人确实是在上周设下婚宴，婚宴规模在100桌左右。而该校工商管理学院的多名同学昨日证实，夫妻两人是同班同学，男主角是1990年出生，而女主角是1992年出生。如今两人的头像都已经设成了甜蜜的双人大头贴，但男主角婉拒了外界的采访请求，他表示：“之前的微博给我们带来一定的影响，所以我们现在不想接受访问。”

A shocking new study found that even women who hit the gym every day can die young -- if they spend too much time on their backsides.

The study, published by the American Cancer Society, says women who sit on their bottoms for more than six hours a day increase their chance of dying by 37 percent over the course of the survey, even if they chain themselves to their treadmills.

Sitting, the study says, suppresses hormones that affect triglycerides and cholesterol, which could trigger heart disease.

There’s an old joke that Harvard’s definition of diversity is having a rich kid from New York room with a rich kid from California. No doubt the joke has also been told about Yale or Duke and about kids from places other than New York and California.

I thought of the joke while looking through the Chronicle of Higher Education’s fascinating interactive graphic on the percentage of students at various elite colleges who are Pell Grant recipients. Pell Grants are easily the country’s largest financial-aid program and, as a rule of thumb, they tend to go to students who come from the bottom half of nation’s income distribution.

At Washington University in St. Louis, only 5.7 percent of students received Pell Grants. At the University of Pennsylvania, the share was 8.2 percent. At Duke and Northwestern, it was 8.3 percent. At Notre Dame, it was 8.4 percent. The numbers at Yale (8.9 percent), and Princeton (9.9 percent) were also fairly low. The share at Stanford was 12 percent.

I wouldn’t expect 50 percent of Harvard students — or even, say, 40 percent of Harvard students — to come from the bottom 50 percent of the income distribution. But 6.5 percent? To put it another way, do you believe that more than 93 percent of the students who are most deserving of attending the nation’s most prestigious, best financed college come from the top half of the income distribution?

I don’t. Nor does William Bowen, the economist and former Princeton president. He was a co-author of a study several years ago that found that elite colleges gave zero credit in the applications process to students from low-income families. All else equal, a poor student who scored, say, 650 on a standardized test had no better chance of being admitted than an affluent student who also scored 650 — despite all the obvious advantages that the affluent student had.

After the study came out, college administrators insisted that they would do better in the future. But it doesn’t look as if they are doing much better. The Chronicle graph suggests that elite colleges are still overlooking a good number of the country’s most talented, most deserving students. These also happen to be the students who appear to gain the most from an elite education.

根据协议条款，自合并生效日起，土豆所有已发行和流通中的A类普通股和B类普通股将退市，每股兑换成7.177股优酷A类普通股；土豆的美国存托凭证 (Tudou ADS)将退市并兑换成1.595股优酷美国存托凭证（Youku ADS）。每股Tudou ADS相当于4股土豆B类普通股，每股Youku ADS相当于18股优酷A类普通股。合并后，优酷股东及美国存托凭证持有者将拥有新公司约71.5%的股份，土豆股东及美国存托凭证持有者将拥有新公司约28.5%的股份。合并后的新公司将命名为优酷土豆股份有限公司（Youku Tudou Inc.）。

优酷的美国存托凭证将继续在纽约证券交易所交易，代码仍为YOKU。

本次战略合并已获得双方公司董事会的批准，但合并完成仍取决于惯例成交条件，包括优酷和土豆双方股东的批准。

Based on a global study, BV4's brand experts and their scientific partners at HWZ analyzed the most successful social network brands.
瑞士品牌价值评估机构BV4与技术合作伙伴HWZ近日发布2012社交媒体品牌调查报告，对2012年最有价值的社交网络进行了全球范围的研究。


They examined the qualitative aspects of the brands, i.e. brand strength, and also determined the monetary values of the 50 most valuable social media brands. The 10 most valuable brands were then listed in the ranking.
调查对全球范围内的社交媒体品牌进行了品牌实力的定性研究，也分析了50个最有价值的社交媒体品牌的货币价值。前10位最有价值品牌排名如上图。


Three well-known brands appear in the top three positions. With an estimated brand value of 29.115 bn $,Facebook clearly leads the ranking, followed by YouTube at 18.099 bn $and Twitter at 13.309 bn $. It is not only the high number of visitors that makes these brands so strong, but also their high level of global awareness and the remarkable user statistics of the platforms. For instance, Facebook has 845 million users; this means that roughly every eighth inhabitant of the planet is registered on the biggest social network.

The market capitalizations of social networks are often many times higher than their turnovers or their balance sheet totals. This means that investors' purchase decisions not only include future expectations but also the intangible assets of the social networks, whereas brand value represents a considerable part of these assets. For"ordinary" brands (e.g., consumer goods brands), brand value is created as soon as consumers are willing to pay a price premium solely because of the brand of a specific product or service.

As a consequence, company and brand value is created only when the social networks and their information can be used commercially. In other words, the higher the awareness and the diffusion rate of social media brands and the trust they generate, the stronger and more valuable they are.

The unstoppable rise of "exotic" brands

"Social media brands from emerging countries like China, Russia or Brazil can be expected to become increasingly significant in the future", states Max Meister, CEO of BV4. On the one hand, numbers of Internet users in these countries are increasing at above-average rates compared to growth in Europe or in the USA. On the other hand, Asian users are significantly more active in social networks. And finally, there is another element with a strong influence on the rapid growth of social networks in China: as various online shopping websites are not very reliable and therefore losing their users' trust, various purchase transactions are being completed on social networks. This fact additionally boosts the number of users and the degree of activity of social platforms in China. However, because of the limited regional language and culture area it can be assumed that these brands will soon reach a saturation point and will therefore not be able to create a global presence.

官方发布2158道中餐饭菜英文译名 童子鸡叫做Spring chicken

四喜丸子被译成Four glad meat balls（四个高兴的肉团），木须肉被翻成Wood mustache meat（木头胡子肉），醉蟹成了Drunk crab（喝高了的螃蟹）……这些让人忍俊不禁的中餐英语菜名可能从餐馆的菜单上消失。北京市外办和市民讲外语办公室近日联合出版的《美食译苑——中文菜单英文译法》，为2158道中餐饭菜“正名”。

正名 中餐菜名将统一规范

随着国际化程度不断提高，越来越多的餐馆开始提供英文或中英文对照菜单。但中餐菜名一直没有规范的翻译方法，很多餐馆老板将中文菜名直译成英文，闹出不少笑话。一家餐馆曾将火爆腰花直接译成Pork flower（猪肉花），弄得外国食客一头雾水。

“中餐菜名，不仅包含了原材料的信息，还糅合了很多文化、历史事件、人名等，形成了独特的命名方式。”市外办有关负责人说，很多餐馆饭店的英文菜单千奇百怪，不仅外国人看不懂，连熟悉“中式英语”的国内英语老师也云里雾里。

新出版的《美食译苑》基本涵盖了八大菜系的主流菜品，从家常菜到各式大餐菜品都被收入并翻译成外国人能看懂的英文名称。市外办有关负责人表示，餐馆可以参照书中标准译法印制菜单，但不会强制推行。

释疑 童子鸡为啥译“春鸡”

中餐菜品琳琅满目，很多菜名也有着独特的来源。在编制标准译法时，不少菜名都引发了编委会、专家团队内部激烈的争议。此前曾被翻译成Chicken without sex（还没有性生活的鸡）的童子鸡此次被正名为 Spring chicken（直译为春鸡），引发了网友热议。

北京外国语大学教授陈琳告诉记者，将童子鸡的英文名称定为Spring chicken是符合中英文语言特征的。童子鸡的中文含义是没有交配的小鸡，而英语中一般用春、夏、秋、冬来形容小动物的年龄特征，初生到性成熟前的鸡一般用Spring chicken 来表示。

陈琳说，红烧狮子头在标准译法中被称为 Braised pork ball in brown sauce，而不能译成Red burned lion head (红烧狮子脑袋)。“如果外国客人看到菜单中有狮子的脑袋，一定会向动物保护组织投诉的。”陈琳笑称。


此外，四喜丸子的译法也由Four glad meat balls（四个高兴的肉团）改为Braised pork balls in gravy（肉汤中炖的猪肉丸），鱼香肉丝则音译加意译为Yuxiang shredded pork，麻婆豆腐则从Tofu made by woman with freckles （一脸雀斑女人做的豆腐）改为了音译的Mapo tofu。

译法 菜名翻译遵循7规则

据介绍，由于中餐菜名形成各异，翻译方法也迥然不同。陈琳表示，在进行中餐英译时，专家团队基本遵循了意译为主的7项翻译规则，力争让完全不懂中华文化的外国宾客一眼就能看懂：

以主料为主、配料为辅，如白灵菇扣鸭掌译为 Mushrooms with duck webs。

以烹制方法为主、原料为辅，如火爆腰花译成Sautéed pig kidney。

以形状、口感为主、原料为辅，如家常菜脆皮鸡译为Crispy chicken。

以人名、地名为主，如麻婆豆腐翻译为Mapo tofu、北京炸酱面则为Noodles with soy bean paste Beijing style。

体现中国餐饮文化的特有食品被改用汉语拼音命名或音译，饺子就从原来的dumpling变成了Jiaozi。类似的还有包子Baozi、豆腐Tofu、杂碎Chop suey等。

无法直译或翻译无法体现做法、原材料的，都使用了汉语拼音。闽系名菜佛跳墙就音译成Fotiaoqiang，驴打滚儿则为Lǘdagunr，豆汁儿为Douzhir。这些菜的后面还加注了主要的原料名称。

为了区分做法，专家还仔细研究了英语介词in和with在汤汁、配料中的用法。主料是浸在汤汁或配料中时使用in连接，例如豉汁牛仔骨翻译成Steamed beef ribs in black bean sauce，而汤汁或蘸料和主料是分开的或后浇在主菜上的则用with连接。此外，还规范了可数名词单复数使用原则。

善良劫匪主动退还财物：大学生找工作也挺可怜的！

毕业生求职闹市遭抢 丢毕业证哭诉无门

昨日，在湛江求职的女大学生小刘回忆起前日闹市遭抢的经历时，庆幸劫匪退还了她的毕业证书。前日上午，小刘在朋友的陪同下，准备去参加职场面试，却被一个骑摩托车的人抢走了挎包。反应过来后的她奋起直追，但只能眼睁睁看着劫匪的无牌摩托消失在雨中。

被吓坏的小刘眼泪在眼眶里打转。大学毕业后她只身到湛江求职，挎包里不仅有手机和钱包，还放着她和其他几位同学的毕业证书。小刘借了朋友的手机，一遍又一遍拨打自己的手机，话筒里传来的却总是“您拨打的电话无人接听”。绝望时她却意外收到自己手机发来的短信：“我把毕业证放到哪里你来拿，我不想影响你的前途。” 她连忙回复：“谢谢你！我是出来找工作的学生，毕业证对我真的很重要。”很快她就收到对方的回复：”你不要报警，放好会发信息给你，请原谅没家的人。”

峰回路转 劫匪还毕业证又还手机


通过短信沟通，劫匪答应把包放在湛江市十八中门口的垃圾桶，让小刘去取回她和同学的毕业证书。半信半疑的小刘按照短信里提供的地址，在十八中附近的变电箱后面找到了自己的挎包，劫匪拿走了手机和钱包里的现金，把其他东西还给了小刘。小刘拿到包后，劫匪竟然还打来电话，问她“手机还要不要”？惊讶的小刘看到包里的毕业证书完好无损，觉得已是不幸中的万幸，慷慨地告诉劫匪，“手机就算了，送给你了。”

小刘挂断电话后，执着的劫匪再次打来电话询问他们所在的位置，并称“看你们大学生找工作也挺可怜的，手机还给你吧！”小刘和朋友向劫匪告诉了自己的具体位置不久，身后传来“喂”的一声，一个人骑着摩托车把她的手机丢在地上，还没等他们反应过来，那人就迅速加大油门驾车离去。小刘希望那个“没家的人”能够早日改邪归正，找到一份稳定的工作，过正常的生活。

美国前总统尼克松情书曝光：浪漫追妻展现柔情一面

Old-school love letters between a young Richard Nixon and the woman he would later marry have been unveiled at the former president's library in California, showing the poetic side of a man who addressed his future wife as "dearest heart."
日前，加利福尼亚州的前总统图书馆曝光了年轻的理查德·尼克松的老情书，这些情书的收信人是他后来的妻子。这些书信显示了一个男人充满诗意的一面，他在信中称妻子为“最亲密的爱人”。


The letters, written by hand between 1938 and 1940, include professions of love in which Nixon tells Pat Ryan, as she was then known, that "nothing so fine ever happened" to him as falling in love with her.

"Every day and every night I want to see you and be with you. Yet I have no feeling of selfish ownership or jealousy. In fact I should always want you to live just as you wanted - because if you didn't then you would change and wouldn't be you," Nixon wrote in one of the letters, part of a rotating display at the Nixon Presidential Library and Museum.

Nixon, who served as U.S. president from 1969 to 1974, stepped down in the face of almost certain impeachment due to the involvement of his aides and campaign in an attempt to bug his political opponents' offices at the Watergate complex and the subsequent cover-up.

He was pardoned a month after he left office by his successor, President Gerald Ford. Nixon, whose wife stood by him throughout a scandal that damaged national trust in the White House and government, died in 1994.

The letters on display illustrate the couple's courtship between the time they met during tryouts for a community play in Whittier, California, in 1938 and when they were later married in 1940, nearly three decades before they became president and first lady.

"What's so charming about these letters is that they are really from another time, because I think the writing of love letters has really become a lost art with technology," said exhibit curator Bob Bostock.

He said that while Nixon's letters showed a romantic side of the former president, Pat Ryan's letters tended to be "a bit lighter, humorous."

In one, she writes: "Hi-ho, Hi-ho! How does it go? It would be good to see and hear -- . Night school is over about 9 so if you are through with club meeting perhaps I'll see you?" In another letter, she offers to "burn a hamburger" for her sweetheart if he visits her on a Wednesday evening.

Six of the letters, three penned by Nixon and three by his future wife out of a collection of several dozen, will be on rotating display in the Nixon library in Yorba Linda, California, through September 3 as part of an exhibit to mark what would have been Pat Nixon's 100th birthday. She died in 1993.
